GAMMA ALARM MODEL 500B
The 500B is a portable, battery powered alarm system designed for Gamma ray inspection areas. The 500B has manually operated pre-warning and audible alarms whilst the exposure alarm Is automatically switched when the radiation level, due to the exposure of the gamma- ray source, reaches a pre-set threshold level (normally 7.5 Sv/h).
INDICATORS
The 500B has three separate indicators:
- An AMBER flashing lamp indicating the unit is switched on and the radiation is below the set threshold.
- AN AUDIBLE alarm Indicating that a radiation exposure is about to take place (pre warning).
- A RED flashing lamp indicating that the radiation is above the pre-set threshold.
CONTROLS
The 500B has three switches to control the various functions:
- 1. GREEN - this switches the alarm on, the Amber lamp flashes until the pre-set radiation threshold is exceeded at which point the Red lamp flashes and the Amber lamp is extinguished. When the radiation falls below the threshold then the Amber lamp is re-energised and the Red kamp is extinguished.
- 2. YELLOW - The pre warning switch initiates the Audible alarm immediately prior to exposure in the Amber-flashing mode. The Audible alarm is automatically switched off when the radiation level energises the Red-flashing lamp.
- 3. RED - This switches off the alarm and allowing the batteries to be recharged via the charging lead.

Gamma Alarm Model 500M
This unit is intended for fixed installation in a radiography compound, a long life amber lamp shows that the alarm is on and that the radiation level is below the preset threshold (usually 7.5uSv/h). When the alarm is triggered by an exposure, the amber lamp is extinguished, and a high intensity red xenon strobe is illuminated. The 500M also have an internal relay, which is intended to operate mains powered warning lamps or annunciator signs inside and outside of the radiography compound.
Specification – Same as 500B with the following exceptions.
- Amber lamp non-flashing filament bulb.
- Power requirements 110/230v 50/60HZ.
- Internal relay contacts rating 5A @ 230v AC (1150 watts)
- Wall mounting brackets supplied.
